Susannah Martin was born in New York City, USA and currently lives and works in Frankfurt, Germany. She studied painting at New York University.
Susannah Martin focuses without exception on nude paintings embedded in landscapes. With her hyperrealistic works, she takes up the long art historical tradition of the nude as well as landscape painting and transfers both into a contemporary, hyperreal (pictorial) language. Susannah Martin studied with Louise Lawler and Sherrie Levine, among others. Her works can be found in important international private collections.
"Nature is no longer our home, it has become a tourist destination. Without a doubt, no current representation of an "act in the landscape" can hide our extreme alienation from nature, whether consciously or unconsciously."
